-
- I remember reading several times direct quotes from Amiga Technologies that
- AmigaDos is to be made hardware independant so that it can be ported to
- other systems. AmiT has also stated many times that they want to break the
- hardware dependance model. Which to me means there will be some form or RTG
- and knowing their good working relationship with Phase 5 it could well be
- their code. The basic enhancments confirmed by Gilles are memory protection
- and virtual memory built in. I'd say that RTG will be too but that's
- unconfirmed as of yet. I too would like to see AmigaDos have the ability to
- run on a majority of platforms out there even the aging X86 line. (No
- flames please)

- : In many ways, all of that does not matter. At the end of the day, it's how
- : fast it goes, and for what price. Most other things can then be programmed
- : around. An ideal cpu archetecture would be better, of course, but we have
-
- True but in most cases the elegant solution is also the faster. An enhanced
- AmigaDos and chipset as reported by AmiT should be both.
-
- : RISC programs take up a lot of room in RAM and HD, I understand. Converting
- : cisc to risc on-chip is not great in many ways, but does cut down the
- : storage demands perhaps...
-
- That hasn't seemed to help the main OSs on the X86 platform. With minimum
- memory requirments and hard drive space requirments that are rediculous. I
- won't mention the speicific OSs but I doubt a port of AmigaDos to RISC is
- going to make it that bloated. Besides I don't think RISC code is all that
- much bigger than CISC in fact I remember it being discussed here several
- times.
-
- : >: Perhaps amigaos could be made hardware independant ? Like, but better than,
-
- It is in the works. It has to be ported to PPC first obviously to support
- the PowerAmiga.
